Parham Ghalamdar's work draws on the histories and traditions of Western and Persian/Islamic Miniature paintings. He has been exploring the overlaps and blurry borders between traditional oil painting and new digital tools such as artificial intelligence-generated imagery and digital animation since the national lockdown in 2020. His practice is under the heavy influence of the past: Piero Della Francesca's paintings and the future: artificial intelligence, the internet, and digital culture to negotiate a "now" moment in painting.

Parham Ghalamdar was a recipient of the Desire Lines residency program to collaborate with artists, scientists, and students at Chmnitz's University of Technology to explore the influences of artificial intelligence on contemporary painting. During the Desire Lines residency program, Ghalamdar produced four extra-large scale oil paintings inspired by Piero Della Francesca's fresco of "Constantine's Dream". Ghalamdar then trained an AI engine to study the images and respond to them. The result was a painting installation where screens in between the canvases were outpainting and connecting the oil paintings with images of landscapes, skyscapes and portraits.

DESIRE LINES is a new european residency programme that aims to give artists from all over Europe the opportunity to gain new experiences and influences. The programme is based on the idea of realizing this exchange through a network of cities and institutions based there. This network of organizations from Chemnitz, Manchester and Venice was officially founded in 2021 and is now having its Europe-wide premiere in Chemnitz. More cities and institutions are to be integrated in the next few years.

At the start, the Begehungen e.V. Artists from Manchester, Venice, Prague and Kyiv invited to a four-week art residency in Chemnitz. The place of work of the four will be the city laboratory of the Collaborative Research Centre “Hybrid Societies: Humans Interacting with Embodied Technologies” at Chemnitz University of Technology at Brühl. The reason for the cooperation between the university and the art association is this year's residency focus on digital art. The exchange with scientists is an important part for all artists of the stay.
